Definition of free outside time - it is 100% child directed with opportunities to problem solve and get dirty. Free play means LESS rules and lots of opportunities to problem solve.
Sensory experiences - there are so MANY natural sensory experiences occurring OUTSIDE and the more time spent outside, the more opportunities children have to take in sensory input, process it, and make meaningful actions!
Newest research shows that children get LESS THAN 45 minutes to one hour per day to play FREELY outside and they spend up to 7 hours per day using a screen- ipad, iphone, TV, computer.. etc!
The recommendations.... that elementary school children should get at least 3-4 hours per day of outdoor play!
